Most MSPs don’t have a talent problem. They have a leadership problem.

If you’re leading an MSP right now, you’re likely feeling the tension.

Your business is growing. Maybe you’re acquiring, integrating, or preparing for the next stage of scale. On paper, things look strong.

But inside the business, the same issues keep surfacing:

  • Service delivery isn’t as consistent as it should be
  • Accountability varies across teams
  • Client trust gets tested more often than you’d like
  • Visibility into performance isn’t where it needs to be

At a certain point, it becomes clear: these aren’t process problems. They are leadership gaps.

And to add complexity to the mix, we’re seeing VP and Director-level service delivery searches extend 90–120+ days when real transformation is required.

Many of the strongest candidates are stepping out later in the process, most often due to lack of clarity or leadership misalignment.

All the while, compensation expectations of proven operators continue to rise, especially in PE-backed environments where execution matters immediately.

At the same time, top candidates are more selective than ever, asking themselves:

  • Is there true alignment at the leadership level?
  • Is the mandate clear?
  • Will I actually be able to drive change here?

The reality is, the bar has gone up on both sides.
